For Suruchi, rangoli is more than just art; it's about creating a design that enhances the festive spirit. Here are her tips to help you add depth and creativity to your rangoli.

Isha Jain
This is Isha’s story about overcoming self-doubt, embracing creativity, and discovering the joy of unexpected success as she took the first step towards something new. All it takes to create something beautiful is the courage to begin. And this Diwali, she is glad she did!

"I had been seeing people creating peacock rangoli with so much grace but never tried it before. This time, I thought of trying it and this is how my design came into existence.
This was my first attempt at creating a peacock rangoli and I am glad that it turned out well. It always appeared tough to me but the moment I started designing it, I realized it wasn't that hard. I am delighted to have tried it this Diwali. I had never drawn a peacock rangoli before so this time I thought of making one. I looked for peacock rangolis online and made mine by taking different ideas from them. Since it was for Diwali, I thought of making something related to it, so I added a diya. This is how my rangoli got its shape and I am happy that it turned out nice."
Tap Your Inner Creativity
Take a moment to reflect and connect with your creative side. Let your imagination flow freely. It is the best way to create something unique.
Silence Self-Doubt
Stop doubting yourself or worrying about what others might say. When you let go of fear, you will feel liberated, and your creativity will shine.
Just Try
Do not hesitate to give it a shot! It is always better to try and learn than to regret never having tried at all. Every attempt is a step forward.
Surprises Can Happen
You never know what wonderful things can happen unless you try! Enjoy the process and do not look for perfection.

Preeti Agrawal
Festival rituals have a special way of building and nourishing family bonds. Preeti’s story is a testimony interwoven with strands of bonding, creativity, and devotion.

“A rangoli, after all, is more than just a colorful design; it’s a joyful celebration of art and tradition, a feast for the eyes, and a reflection of our creativity,” says Preeti. She confesses that she is a proud mom when it comes to her daughter’s artistic talents, boundless imagination, and knack for creating something extraordinary out of the simplest ideas.
Together they scrolled through the endless gallery of designs on the internet to find a design that excited them. Her daughter’s vision and enthusiasm went beyond replicating the design. “Why not make it our own?” And, just like that, their creative journey began. Every step invited sparks of originality as they added intricate details and blended the colors.
Their work carried a piece of their togetherness - a memory, a shared laugh, a creative challenge to overcome together. By the time they finished, the rangoli wasn’t just a decoration; it was theirs. And so, that rangoli became more than a part of their festival—it became a symbol of their bond, their shared creativity, and the vibrant joy of creating something new together.
Channel Positive Energy
Before you start, ensure you’re in a happy and calm state of mind. A relaxed and joyful mindset enhances creativity, allowing ideas and intricate designs to flow from your mind.
Choose the Right Theme
Start by deciding the theme of your rangoli. Let it align with the festival. A meaningful theme sets the tone for your design.
Seek Inspiration, Add Your Touch
Explore the internet or look at traditional designs for inspiration. Combine elements from different ideas to craft something unique. Don’t forget to infuse your personal creative touch to make it truly your own.
Dedicate Yourself to the Process
Approach your rangoli-making with focus and dedication. It’s not just about completing a design. Immersing yourself in the creative journey adds richness to your art.
Create Meaningful Art
Create a rangoli that conveys a message or reflects the spirit of the celebration. Add symbolic elements to enhance the radiance and emotional appeal of your rangoli.
Let Your Creativity Shine in Patterns and Details
Experiment with new patterns, motifs, and details to make your rangoli stand out. Spark a whole new creative experience for yourself. Give an innovative twist to a traditional design for a fresh, unique result.
Plan Before You Colour
Sketch your design on the floor before filling it with colors. It helps refine your ideas, ensures symmetry, and smooths the process. Feel the joy as your design starts to take shape.
Equip Yourself with the Right Tools
Use tools like cones, sieves, or brushes for precise patterns and detailing. Experiment with different techniques like shading, blending, or layering to add depth and texture.
Enjoy the Process
Most importantly, immerse yourself in the joy of creating. Rangoli-making is not just about the outcome but about expressing love, peace, and creativity.
Enjoy every step. Let your heart guide your art and add glory to your celebrations.
Savita Mane
When a mere task is transformed into a spiritual endeavor the gods look down upon you with benevolence and grace. Savita’s story is like a song of praise and worship to the divine.

As a lecturer in a prestigious college in Malleswaram, Bangalore, my days are often filled with lessons and bustling schedules. Yet, amidst the academic rigor, one place has always been my sanctuary - the century-old Krishna temple in our locality. Each day, as I visited this sacred space, I found peace and joy in creating small rangolis at the temple’s entrance.
What began as a simple act of devotion soon turned into something much larger. One day, one of the temple authorities approached me with a special request: “Would you create rangolis during the auspicious month of Dhanura in front of the temple?”
I was both humbled and excited—it felt like a call from Lord Krishna himself. Embracing this opportunity, I started designing theme-based rangolis for the temple during this sacred month. With each design, I poured my heart into capturing the beauty of Lord Krishna’s essence, blending vibrant colors with intricate patterns.
Soon, my passion caught the attention of like-minded friends, and together, we formed a small team. With Lord Krishna’s blessings and shared enthusiasm, we began creating stunning rangolis in the temple quadrangle. Every design was a collaborative effort—each stroke infused with creativity, devotion, and the joy of offering something beautiful to the divine.
This journey not only deepened my connection to Lord Krishna but also opened new doors for me. Encouraged by the temple community, I started participating in rangoli competitions across the city. To my delight, I won prizes in every contest I entered! Each award felt like a reaffirmation of Lord Krishna’s guidance and blessings on this creative path.
Today, as I look back, I feel immense gratitude. What started as a humble offering has grown into a passion that continues to inspire me and those around me. Every rangoli is more than just an artwork—it’s a celebration of faith, friendship, and the divine call of Lord Krishna that brought this beautiful journey to life.
Love and Patience are Key
Approach rangoli-making with love and patience—they are the most important ingredients for a stunning creation.
Practice and Plan Ahead
Take time to practice and plan your design and the colors before you start. A little preparation goes a long way in achieving a stunning rangoli.
Master The Lines
To draw thin lines, hold firmly and release small amounts of powder with your fingers
To draw thick lines, use more powder, releasing it steadily to create bold, even strokes
Do not redraw lines because the thickness of the lines will vary
Avoid Stencils at First
Skip stencils or tools initially. It may feel challenging, but freehand drawing builds your confidence and skill over time.
Use Bright Colours
Choose vibrant and contrasting colors to make your rangoli stand out. Depending on the size of the rangoli, use not more than 3-4 colors.
