To answer a few of the questions you may have about Diwali decor, ParentCircle talked to Harshita, an interior designer and creator of the lovely Insta page Happenings_by_harshita. Here are the excerpts from the interview:

How can families decorate their homes for Diwali with a minimum budget?
As far as budget-friendly Diwali home decor is concerned, it revolves around refurbishing or recycling existing things around the house and making it look more festive and colourful.
Simple clay diyas are quite affordable. They can be hand-painted and designed with spray paint and glitter. Origami diyas and lanterns too can instantly brighten up spaces. To make the decor look more sustainable, you can also use empty glass bottles and mason jars lying around the house and throw some fairy lights inside them.
DIY torans or drapes using old colourful sarees can amp us entrances and doorways. Refurbishing existing cushions with brocade or raw silk fabrics can also add a festive touch to the furnishings. The same applies to curtains too.
Fabric tassels of warm ombre shades can also add an interesting highlight to the festive decor. You can also go for DIY wall art with mandalas or hand-block stencils, it would serve as a colourful backdrop for Diwali parties.
Tell us about colour schemes that go well for Diwali home dcor
Diwali definitely revolves around warmer hues like red, yellow, orange and gold. These colours can be complemented with bright colours like fuchsia pink, royal blue, emerald green and purple. Keeping the pastel trend in mind, you could also opt for a silver and pastel colour palette featuring mint green, lavender or blush pink.
Give us a few tips to revamp the living room and the pooja room for Diwali
For Living Room:
The festive theme can be highlighted on all the soft furnishings like cushions, curtains, dhurries and throws. The coffee table can be styled with a unique combination of a centrepiece, candles and flowers over a runner. Centrepieces can be anything from a quirky old kettle or a brass uruli to an old metal or wooden trunk box lying around the house. Scented candles/potpourri can also add to the festive fragrance. Candleariums or Moroccan-themed lighting are also in trend these days.
Handmade coasters and ethnic printed decoupaged trays add a personalised touch to the dcor. For flowers, opt for fresh marigolds and baby's breath paired with red roses or carnations.
For Pooja room:
