As a child, I was inspired by my mother. She was always elegantly dressed, independent, well-spoken and respected. I remember how people used to talk very highly about her. I wanted to grow up to be just like her. After winning the Miss India title, my path spontaneously turned towards the film industry. While I was building a career in films, my parents gave me immense freedom, within boundaries of course, and trusted me completely. Such trust and respect also kept me from doing things that would embarrass them.
My two children are very different from each other. While one is studious, the other is quite playful. But I insist that they do what they enjoy, even in academics. I also believe that if you like what you are doing, you will automatically work hard at getting better. When that happens, nothing can come in the way of your success. Give your children freedom and trust them wholeheartedly; they will eventually emulate the values you stand for.
