Teaching methodology in school is changing my daughter behaviour

I can completely understand your concern, as it is my goal too to change the teacher centered learning to student centered learning, since I am doing my educational psychology. Rote memorization kills the creativity and the imagination of the kid. The schools are producing the products to do a mechanical and routine job, the education system needs a shift for the new knowledge era. No more knowledge is the guru, knowledge is readily available by a touch of a button, but the dispositions of the kids, and their unique creativity and imagination is the most crucial. The education board need to attend to this as this will damage the entire generation. For your query, as a parent you have two prime responsibility choosing the right school and be the advocate for your child. Please look for the emergent curriculum based schools, inquiry based learning instead of the case schools. The new schools are emerging with various pedagogical methods, pls look for other options.

Precisely the reason why I plan to home school my kid. I've accepted the fact that education today is more about resume building and not character building. And these resumes are for sale at very cheap prices with little or no professional satisfaction.

However, I believe there are some schools with alternative teaching methodologies. you could surely find them on Google. Also depends what city you are in.

Hi. I can imagine how hard it must be for you to see your child's keen observation and other learning skills being crushed by a rigid syllabus and teaching methodology. And yes, it's not easy to get school admissions these days. However, its something you need to think about seriously. There are in fact a growing number of new schools that use a broad curriculum and the teachers adopt newer methods of teaching. Its easier to get admission in a fairly new school which is just growing. Shortlist some of those schools, based on the type of curriculum they offer. Talk to a few parents from those schools to get feedback. Do not rely on just one person's feedback. Now that you are clear about your child's learning abilities, choose a school that will suit her natural abilities. The change will be worth it in the long run. Else, your child will ultimately slip into the system of her present school and get used to it after sometime. As a parent, you must choose what would benefit your daughter the most.
