Navratri is a joyous occasion to honor and experience the presence of the divine in our lives. The fact that Navaratri is a festival that celebrates the Goddess is what makes it very special in the first place. It is a recognition and celebration of feminine power in a world which is dominated by patriarchy. The Decked up idol of Durga Mata in a burning and deep red, the magnificent presence of colors, joy, peace, and prayers in the atmosphere, the foot tapping and energetic music of the garba and dandiya, all these factors add up to the festive feeling that Navratri brings along! This year I had created a small pandal like decoration at my place glowing with diyas and brightened it up using colourful sarees. I had moulded an ecofriendly face of Durga Maa and had offered prayers and prasad to this symbolic idol of MAA. I had also tried my hand at setting up Golu at my place and being a teacher explained the significance of these rich cultural practices to my students over online classes.

I love the happiness, prosperity and colors Navratri brings to our homes. Due to corona this year I decided to make the clothes of my Goddess Durga by myself using the dupattas I had at home. I kept the decorations simple and danced to the tunes of mata bhajans which bring positivity in the entire house.

Happy Navratri to all! Here is Havisha Sree's mom's Golu 2020 (photo-collage). My little daughter joined me in organising our Golu in an enthusiastic manner. The South Indian Navratri tradition of displaying dolls (bommai golu) arranged on an odd number of steps, includes inviting guests home to sing together, share bowls of piping hotsundaland gogoluhopping. This year is different.

We need to be cautious. We will limit the number of invitees and keep hand sanitisers at the entrance of our home .
