Present Over Perfect: What Children Really Need from Parents

As parents, we often try to be perfect… but is that really what our children need?

Children don’t need perfect parents; they need present ones.

Have you ever noticed that the bond between parents and kids is not as strong these days? It's because kids prefer parents who are present rather than perfect.

Let's explore a few reasons that can provide a solution.

Parents provide everything to their kids, but what they often lack is time. Being there physically and emotionally is important. Kids love to spend quality time with their parents. A small trip to an ice cream parlour together is far better than staying busy, absent, and sending gifts.

Handling situations calmly and politely also builds confidence among kids. For example, when parents make a mistake and say sorry, children learn that it is okay to accept errors and improve. This creates a safe environment where they do not feel the need to hide their wrongdoings.

Giving kids emotional support boosts their mental growth. When kids feel heard and understood, they feel protected and less alone.

I personally feel that providing food, clothing, shelter, and education are not the only needs of a child. Giving them love, care, and support is equally essential for their overall development.

What do you think—do children need perfect parents or present ones?
