Popular number rhymes for kids that will make learning fun and interesting

Ever heard a toddler trying to proudly rattle off numbers from 1 to 10 even while struggling to speak properly? It can be quite amusing to hear! Some can even count to 20 or more, of course skipping a few numbers here and there.

Well, if you have a toddler or a preschooler at home going through this phase, you can easily teach him counting through number rhymes.

    Importance of number rhymes

Math rhymes are quite popular among little ones who are learning to count. The beat and rhythm of rhymes make it fun for children to sing along or dance to the tune while incidental learning happens simultaneously. Some of the famous number songs for kids that are taught in preschool and kindergarten include 'Baa Baa Black Sheep', 'Five Little ducks', 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe', 'One, two, three, four, five, Once I caught a fish alive', and 'Five Little Ducks'.

As your child sings these number songs or math rhymes, she:

    • learns the names of numbers and their order
    • is introduced to simple counting, addition and subtraction concepts
    • enhances her vocabulary and language skills
    • is using her creativity and imagination
    • improves her memory skills

    Number rhymes for kids

So, here we go with our collection of 25 number rhymes for preschoolers. Some of these are short counting songs that your little one will enjoy. Read them out to your child or get her to sing these number rhymes along with you. As you sing these songs, get your child to do the actions and count along using her fingers or her toys. For example, when you sing 'Five Little Ducks', bring out five little toys. Then, when only 4 little ducks come back, take away one toy, and so on.

It's also a great way to bond with your child!
