Hi mamas! First-time mom from India how did you survive the first 40 days (jaappa)?

Hi everyone, I'm new here 👋 I'm a new mom navigating the jaappa phase and honestly some days feel like a blur — recovery, feeding, sleep, in-laws' advice, all of it at once.

A few things I'd love to hear from you:

  1. What's the ONE thing that genuinely helped you in the first 40 days?
  2. Which traditional postpartum foods (panjiri, gond ke laddu, ajwain water) actually worked for you vs. what was just pressure?
  3. How did you handle visitors in the first month?

Would love to hear your wisdom so I can learn 💛

Congratulations on your new baby!  The first 40 days can feel overwhelming, so be gentle with yourself.

My kids are 8 and 10 years old now, although I travelled this road long ago but still I remember those overwhelming days. The one thing that helped me most was accepting help and focusing only on recovery, feeding, and resting whenever possible. I think, Everything else could wait.

Regarding traditional foods, I chose warm, nutritious meals and focused on staying hydrated rather than forcing myself to eat every traditional item others suggested as 'necessary'. Panjiri and gond laddus can be helpful in moderation if they suit your body, because I believe everyone's digestion and nutritional needs are different. Listen to your body and follow your doctor's advice if you have any concerns.

For visitors, setting clear boundaries helped a lot. Most family and friends understand when you explain that both mom and baby need rest.

Remember, there is no perfect way to do the postpartum period. What works for one mother may not work for another. Take the advice that helps and leave the rest. Wishing you a smooth recovery and many beautiful moments with your little one.
