Grandparents- "The ultimate guide of our lives" They are our bestfriends, they are like the lockers which keep our secrets, they can be the doctor who cures all sorrows and they can be the comedian who make us laugh in difficult times. Their tender hug is the most valuable jewel of the universe. For me, my grandpa was a precious diamond who taught me golden values. He was a man of principles and ethics who not only possessed them but also preached others. He gave great lessons through little things of life. The values given by him are lessons for life. He taught us about savings and used to say even if we a earn a rupee we have to atleast save 25 paise for our future. Also ,he used to say that our hand should'nt stretch out for help instead we should be a helping hand and in any circumstances we should'nt lose our self respect. He told me about preachings of karna, that we should not let our left hand know about the good things offered by our right hand. Grandpa also taught me to contribute to our country in all possible ways. My grandma teaches me to cook food and feeds me the tastiest dishes. We spend happy time together in the kitchen preparing snacks and sweets. One of my favorite summer memories are the bed time stories by my grandmom. She used to tell me stories of kanakdasa, purandara dasa , shankaracharya, radha- Krishna ,Shriram and many more which gave me spiritual knowledge and morals that help me lead a life with better values. Her stories left a life long impact on me and sometimes it also helps me in solving problems that I come across. She taught me that we should never hurt anyone, even if they hurt us because one or the other day they will realize their fault and regret ,and that pain will be deeper than what we have suffered. She taught me to be bold and face all obstacles with a smile. She's a woman with a beautiful face and heart. My baba( dad's father) taught me the value of time and education. He keeps saying proverbs like 'early to bed and early to rise', 'practice makes man perfect' etc. His own life story is an inspiration to me. He started working at a young age and selflessly financed the education of his siblings too. He taught me the importance of physical fitness and healthy living. The lessons given by my grandparents are like pearls which when joined together make my life a beautiful necklace and also makes it easier to live.

From the time of my birth i have seen them as my friend gurdian and playmates and not only those role but also they pamper me as their grand son. I have always seen my parents having a very warm relation with them and i also always take care of them as they are old enough .they are like pillers of our house and my hiding place from my parents when they used to scold me.

#InternationalSeniorCitizens'Day Grandparents are a valuable resource as they have many beautiful stories and experiences to share from their own lives. Most of the time, my kiddo listens to his grandparents, when he is not listening to me. Grandparents also offer a link to a child's cultural heritage and family history. I feel me and my son are extremely lucky as we both (when I was a kid, I too got love from my grandparents and my great grandparents and now my kid- he also gets love from his grandparents as well as great grandparents) had a great opportunity to learn great lessons not only from our grandparents but also our great grandparents.. I just loved to spend time with them and now my kid spends his precious time too. They are and were our lifelines.. Great learns learnt from grandparents :- 1. Find happiness in everything: They always teach my kiddo to be content in whatever he has, to find happiness in every little thingthing and teaches him to look at the brighter side of the things. 2. Take care of eeverything, including your time They also give a moral lessons on how to keep our things properly, it should include our precious time also.. Take proper care of our things will make them last longer and longer. 3. Never stop learning: One should never stop learning. There is no age limit to gain knowledge, it can be gained at any point of time. 4. Eat clean: Their advice was to NEVER make a dish for family or friends that came out of a can as far as possible.. 5. Be a bookworm and you'll never be bored: Reading books will make u a learned and a wise man, a man full of content and a good decision maker. Their advices are precious and their teachings are such things that we'll never forget.

I am blessed to get to spend my childhood under the loving canopy of my maternal and paternal grandparents.

There are so many life lessons that I have imbibed from all of them. But someone whose lessons still enlightens my path are that of my maternal grandma. My grandma was way ahead of her time. The way she taught us without actually teaching was remarkable and I cherish the memories fondly.I am sharing one such memory which still brings smile on my face.

Summer vacations was the time that we all cousins waited eagerly for.I had six aunts so it was lot of fun when my maasis and we all cousins gathered in the big old fashioned house.

Our afternoons were spent reading comics under the big Jamun tree in the backyard which used to be ladden with jamun at that time of the year.

Once my granny came and asked us which jamun we would like to have.Excited we all pointed at different sides of the tree. She asked my eldest cousin who was the tallest to climb and pluck the jamun we pointed at.He did so but we didn't get the exact ones we pointed at.Then she asked us to try it ourselves in any way we think proper. Some of us climbed, some brought a stick to hit, some jumped to grab the one they wanted.

After much try we were able in our endeavours and we showed to her enthusiastically what we got.She smiled as she said ,"Whatever fruits we wish to have and eat ,we can't get it by simply standing under the tree with our mouths open nor we will get the desired ones by asking others to try for us.We get what we want...The exact ones, only when we make efforts and the added benefit is they taste more sweet because we tried hard to get them."

The jamuns really tasted more sweet that day.

It is after many years that I realized what she wanted to convey. We have to make efforts for what we want in life.We have to strive to achieve what we aspire for.If we get it with others help,we can't relish it.Success tastes sweeter only when it is the outcome of our sincere efforts!

My grandparents always taught me to respect elders, we are a member of very big family as my father are 7 brothers so I got very litte time to spend with my grand parents as my father is smaller of all brothers, so I have spent just a few years with my grandparents but in this short period of time they taught me many lessons of life like always respect elders, be always polite and stay cool even in big problems of life, always work hard if you want to get success in your life and many more little and big aspects of life to live a better and respectful life.

Grandparents and grandkids share a special bond with each other. Grandparents are role models for their grandchildren. They are a store house of wisdom , experience , and knowledge which they gift to their grandchildren as heirloom. Grand children learn values , manners and discipline from their grandparents.
My son is pursuing his PhD in journalism from USA . He owes all the credit to his late grandparents . They were very close to each other . My parents were the ones who practically raised him up . They shared a wonderful relationship . He still cherishes the fond memories of their stories ,gifts of books , delicious goodies and the discussions of news and even TV serials . He taught my father to use the computer n my mother to handle the mobile . They were partners in many pranks each trying to defend the other . Such was their special ????
Grandparents are assets for the family . Give them the due respect if you want your children to respect you .

This entry goes on behalf of my four year old toddler. He has learned to take care of plants and trees from his grandfather. Whenever we visit our native place my son enjoyed playing in the garden and water the trees( he even gives water to the plants at our flat ).My father says love plants because they are always giving you love in the form of oxygen. Respect green, we need them. Graparents are oxygen to our lives... Shower your blessings to us always... Love you!

He was in Army...

My GRANDOA is my pillar of support, the guiding hand when I get lost along the way. He might not be great at expressing his love, but I know that his love is beyond words. My GP served the Indian Army for glorious 50 years. Army is a profession where you have to side line everything else for the country. It requires great amount of courage to be able to do it & I'm proud of my GP because he has been able to pull it off so well till now. He missed the day I got my first prize for maths; he never saw me participate in any sports event, never took me school books shopping, so many of my birthdays & the list goes on. But my GP , no matter how busy he would be doing his duty, serving the nation, has always found a way to be there for me at every stage in life, if not physically, by any other mean possible to convey his support, love and encouragement to us. Never did I realize that it hurt him more than it hurt me but he was out there for something much bigger, something that makes me proud to call myself his Grand daughter. He was busy protecting our country- guarding borders, posted miles away from his family, surviving the harshest conditions. I remember it was my dance competition but GP was away on an official assignment. However, he hoped to make it to the venue in time. As I waiting for my turn, I anxiously scanned the audience for GP. But sadly, he hadnt made it in time & soon, it was my turn. As I entered the arena, it was GP'S words that echoed in my mind remember to enjoy yourself. Youve worked hard for this. And I did just that. It was a good day for me. As soon as I my performance was finished, I saw my GP, walking fast and searching for me & family. I walked up to him & when he came to know my performance was done he said Im so sorry but I know my beti wouldve done the best. Sure, I had a heavy heart about GP missing my best performance but luckily, he was there for the award ceremony. GP watched me with pride in his eyes and a wide smile on his face as I received the Best Performer award. His claps were the loudest. And he being the inspiration & initiative behind my every achievement, my heart swelled. And when GRANDMA was diagnosed with cancer, my GP took everything upon his shoulders, going through the pain all alone. A loving husband that he is, GM was fed with different kind of juices, soups & food every half an hour, the entire diet being prepared by my GP.He was determined to make her fine. He is a fighter who love challenges & always stands for truth & justice. When GM was recovering slowly but steadily, I was screwing up my board exams. I was considered to be one of the toppers in class, but I went down to the lowest possible grades. Though he was extremely sad, he stood by me, encouraging me to be focused & hard working. He always said when the going gets tough, the tough get going!! He told me stories of his fauji experiences. Something he had never done before. Maybe I was grown up to understand him. Today, I am proud to be what I am with high grades in my masters & a brilliant career which Ive stepped in! I owe it to him, my role model my GP
Growing up I have respected his dedication, his punctuality and his love for our nation. Life isnt just about glitz and glamour, its a duty to be fulfilled. I have learnt from my father is Discipline, the importance of being selfless & courageous which has cultivated sincerity and responsibility in me.

Just like most of the girls Im my Daddys little princess. That doesnt mean I was showered with hugs & kisses all the time. He is my father & he embraced that fact. He has set rules for his children based on firmness & fairness. He has taught me to be Bold, Brave & Beautiful. He is health conscious & his day starts at 4:30 am with jog/walk followed by yoga & exercises. He loves gardening & our garden blooms with flowers all the time, different vegetables & fruits. He served Indian Army that made him Punctual, Strict, Firm & Tough but also Thoughtful, Insightful, Dynamic & Inspiring. A leap of faith & his advice. My go-to person anytime. The bigger situation or a foolish crime. Dad always expects less & gives you more. Dad, I am blessed to be your daughter. You hardly kissed or hugged me but your pat on my back makes me realize that Im loved, cherished & appreciated in a great deal. I love you Dad! Happy Fathers Day!! Thank you for imbibing those values in me. I hope I can live up to them. I always want to make my dad feel special & thank him for everything he has done for me. My dad deserves the best coz I haven't always been the best kid but that didn't stop him from being the best dad & for his warmest hugs that are best in the world.

It literally brings me tears in my eyes whenever I think of my grand parents. And sometimes I regret that I should have spent more time with them.

Coming to the lessons that I have learnt from them - more than lessons it's the qualities which I could see and are learnt by me from them. It is as follows
- Patience
- Being Selfless
- Unconditional love & Care
- Smile even if you are suffering inside both physically and mentally
- You don't need a clock as you anticipate the time with climate precisely
- Waiting the whole day for a 30mins serial or series.
- Happiness is just a state of mind and not the physical pleasure

These are just a few of many lessons that I treasure from my grand parents.Thank you team for this lovely contest.

The relationship between a grandchild and grandparent is a very special one. While grandparents act as an authority figure and provide unconditional love, they also get to spoil their grandkids in a way parents simply can't. But beyond that, grandparents also wield incredible influence. Grandparents in the family are like cheerleaders always inspiring grandchildren, in developing their imaginations and dreams, nurturing their spirit, and encouraging their intellectual growth while giving them a sense of self-worth. They are mentors and heroes that many children seek to pattern their lives after.

Grandparents are the kale in the salad of life. They came first, they have the most to offer you and most of the time, they are under appreciated.
My grandma (Bimla Devi)to whom we all call Amma who is 79 years old now is really a Super Woman. No one can resemble her. She is a metaphorical sign from the heaven. She is the thread of the family by ensuring all personalities of different shades and colors blend into a beautiful frame. She still has a positive energy which inspires me a lot. In this age also She cant sit idol. She wants to do something for everyone. She can't walk properly but she wants to go every where to give her blessings to all. She can't even see from her one eye due to an accident in her early ages. After she became blind from one eye, she didnt resign herself to a life of nothingness. Watching her and her work no one believes that she is in such a big problem. She wants to weave sweaters for all of us and she weaves them for us. She has a brilliant shadow and I wish to thrive on it in the spectrum of my life.
She has taught me a lesson and that is "Act on your problem." If your problem is making you unhappy, then act on it. What changes your problems isnt the feelings that you harbor, but the actions you take to address them. Identify what can be done to fix things, and act on them. Dont mull in your problems because doing so will be to give them weight. Beside it she told me some valuable things like:
1) Be Independent.
2) Know the value of friendship.
3) Don't take life too seriously.
4) Have unconditional love for your partner.
5) Stay in love with life.
May rest of my life span be added to her.
Love you grandmaa (amma)

Grandparents are great experiential source. They not only spill pearls of wisdom but also fill our lives with abundance of love and care. Grandparents share a special bond with their grandchildren. * We learn from their experience. They are like experiencial guide to us. * They teach us how to live in a family and value the relationship, how to obey the elders. They incultivate their culture and traditions to us. * My grandparents always been sweet to others ...if we be good to others ...the good things will attract us. * My grandmother says not do loose talks. She would also say that tolerance to any problems with patience is necessary . *Avoid carrying tales from family to another . * I also learned from her not to make big issues of small silly matter. * Be flexible in our family life. * Be clear and frank when you speak Another important thing I learnt is that when problems arises ..Come forward boldly don't expect others to help you. I incultate the same values to my children so that they can be happy member of the family.

My grandparents taught me to : 1. Be present with the people you are with. My grandmother has sarcastically commented about my incessant need to be glued to my phone numerous times. 2. Know the value of friendship. Cherish your friends, and don't be closed off to making new friends or including new friends 3. Be independent. 4. Muster all the strength you have. you have to pull all the strength you have inside of you and when you think you have pulled out everything you have, pull even more. 5. Have unconditional love for your partner. Love that personunconditionally for better or for worse. 6. Maintain your youthfulness Stayyoung at heart and don't get too old too fast 7. Don'ttake life too seriously far too short to spend aggravated over things that will seem insignificant in hindsight. 8. Stay in love with life find a way to fall in love with it again and view life as amazing. My grandfather is no more but my grandmother is alive but unwell whose picture I have uploaded

Grandparents plays an important role in everyone's life. They are our God on earth. We can learn many things in life from them. They
teach us first chapter of life. I haven't seen my grandpa but I had heard stories about him. But fortunate to have seen my grandma. Firstly my grandpa was towering personality in the village in those time before independence. He was sarpanch of the village for 25 long years. His reputation was so good that no one use to stand against him. The villagers use to come and request him to become sarpanch such was his goodwill. I heard so many stories of his doing justice. He never compromised on his ideals come what may. The most important of his ideals was that he was courteous and respectful to all whether a person was of simple means or well off. Still people tell tales of his acts magnanimity. Similarly my grandma was a very brave and courageous lady. She was strong disciplinarian. She never likes any nonsense and newsense. She was quite found of plants. When she married my grandpa, the place around our house use to be barren land. By planting the trees she converted it into greenery. Now I have almost all the known variety of trees around my house courtesy offcourse my grandma. She also insisted to educate her children. That is why my father, his brothers and sisters all had atleast basic education. One thing of her which I still admire most was her fearlessness.Whenever anything went wrong she never hesitated to pinpoint. Another of her most admiring qualities were being very close to nature. When she married my grandpa there was a water scarcity in the village. And she got constructed a well by donating her own jewellery so that everyone can quench his or her thirst. So she was great donor as well.
A smile comes to my face when I remember the moments I spent with my grandparents. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about them is family. It was there where I saw the bonding, the mingling of each and every member of the family. Different people, different lifestyle, different likes and dislikes but it was with them that I saw how they adjusted and enjoyed together. From them I learnt that no matter how rich or poor you are, no matter how big or small your house is, it's the way you treat everyone that's what counts. In today's world where family just means two to three or maximum four members, people gets so hassled even if a person comes to stay or meet . But what I learnt from my grandparents is to keep your heart wide open and see the love flow in. I remember seeing my grandmother telling us stories, making yummy treats for us making sure each and everyone getting a little bit to taste. This feeling of sharing, affection, care and warmth they showered on each one and passed down to my parents and since I was a recipient of it , this in turn came down to me. Grandparents have always been the strength and support of family. If I could sum it up I could only say that they have taught us to love unconditionally. Their love for us is all. They teach us all things in life.

Grandparents are the pillar and roots of every family. The values and lessons they give are priceless. As far as I know my childhood had been blessed with lots of good memories with my grandparents. The most valuable lesson which I have learnt from my grandparents is to always help the one in need no matter what. They always taught me to Love the family members, friends, society and our country. They taught me many moral stories through story telling and narrating stories of real life heroes. Through which they want to inculcate good moral values in us. I could remember those days when our grandparents made us to do easy household cores and letting us plant vegetables in our kitchen garden. We loved all those activities a lot and iam so grateful to our grandparents for giving their time and love to us.

My grandparents were the most kindest people on this earth. No matter how old they were, they always made time for the things they love. I have learned many life lessons from my grandparents. They taught me that Food can be an expression of love. In our family, food is not simply a way to get required nutrients; it is also an expression of love. My grandmother would prepare special meals for my sister and me for our birthdays. For them, Family is the key and I have learnt to cherish and love my family and to never take them for granted. Grandpa would always say, When the going gets tough, trust in the Lord and never give up but always strive to do your best, as there is always hope at the end of the tunnel. Both of them had a knack of getting both children and the adults to listen to them carefully and learn the ways of Christ, I have learnt from them to do the same in my family.

In this new generation nuclear family concept the value of "Grand parents" is vanished somewhere. Today,s kids are not very much aware of the family value and culture due to this fashionable system. But Grandparents plays a very important and priceless role in our and our kids life. I lost my grand pa when I was in class four but I remember that he used to gives candy every day to all of us. My grand ma is still here and we share a special bonding together. I had learnt so many things from her specially netting sweater and making sweets. After my marriage i had shifted to another city but I always prayer to god for her good health and try to mate her when ever is possible. I am also lucky that I married in a joint family where I got My grand mother in law and grand father in law. and my daughter is super lucky to have and see both grand and great grand parents both. My daughter is very much found of her grandparents and she learnt so many things of behavior science like kindness, sharing your stuff, cultural activities ,religious story and their value in our life ect. In my personal view grand parents are the pillar of the family. They are the one who always ready to help us and our strength in any criticle situation . They are the one who always give and show you the right path and advice in your life. My Daughter MEEHU with her GREAT GRAND FATHER and GRAND MOTHER.

My grandparents had been the foundation stones, of my life. I was born and brought up in a joint family and then later when I was in my senior secondary college, I moved to a different city. Being the eldest most child of the family, I was emotionally more attached to my grandmother. I have learnt the qualities of selflessness and discipline from her. She was and still is an ardent reader of Holy Scriptures like Bhagwad Gita, Ramayan etc and other religious magazines, and hence we all children used to have bed time story series, narrated by her in such a beautiful way. She had made us more aware and dutiful towards our culture and society. I am lucky enough to have inherited, my grandmother's trait of narration and ways of communication, which had helped me in my career, as a lecturer. My grandmother had a great impact on me and the trajectory of my life. With the values I have learnt, directly or indirectly, from her, I am able to sail through this unpredictable ocean of life, safely till now. I am sure I will make her feel proud in the future too. May God bless my Grandmother, my 'Badi Amma' (in hindi) as we call her lovingly, to fight with her old age related health issues soon.
