Ubharuni Marathi manachi gudhi sajra karuya ha gudi padwa. Gudi padwa is a Marathi new year. This day marks a new beginning and new year in our lives. The gudi we hoist in our home is believed to ward off evil, invite prosperity and good wealth and luck to us. The historical significance of gudi is that it symbolizes Lord Rama's victory over ravan. Hindus believe that on this day brahma created the universe. We eat jaggery and neem leaves (sweet and bitter) in the morning on this day which conveys a message that life isn't happy all the time their will be bad times too but we have to learn to balance all situations and learn something from bitter moments also

In the western U. P., we celebrate the new year on the first day of Chaitra month of hindu calendar. The day also marks the beginning of the nine days of worshipping the nine forms of the Goddess Durga (Chaitra Navratri). People decorate their houses, decorate the deities idol, offer seasonal fruits and flowers to the goddess. Pooja and havan are performed, prasadam is prepared and offered to the goddess and later distributed among the family members and neighbours. Many devotees also observe nine days fasting and maintain a burning ghee lamp (Akhand Jyoti) in the worship area for nine days throughout. On the ninth day Ram Navami (birth of Lord Sri Ram), is also celebrated. So, a complete celebration of nine days is observed in our regional area. What could be a better start for a new year than to take divine blessings of the creator of the universe, Goddess Adi Shakti. I am proud of my cultural inheritance and will guide my children and coming generations to continue celebrating the regional festivals with devotion and energy
