    The popularity of organic foods in India has grown exponentially over the past decade, echoing global market trends, which are predicted to soar to almost $ 320 billion by 2025. Fruits and vegetables have emerged as the largest organic food product, though the popularity of beverages is also expected to grow by over 13 percent over the next decade, with the organic coffee and tea sector showing impressive sales.

    The Asia Pacific region is projected to witness rapid growth and is predicted to account for over 12 percent of revenue by 2025. Trends reflect Asian Pacific countries growing agricultural sector and increased demand for organics.

    As a parent, if you are fascinated by the promising future for organics but still haven't decided whether to take the leap, the following considerations may just swing your mind in favor of organic produce.

    Higher omega-3 essential fat

    For decades, the question of whether organic foods were actually healthier, was often a subject of heated debate. Two studies published in the British Journal of Nutrition, however, have put an end to any speculation, with researchers making two important findings. The first is that organic meat and dairy products contain up to 50% more Omega-3 essential fatty acids.

    If you are an avid reader of all things to do with nutrition, then you probably know that one of the main reasons why doctors so often recommend a Mediterranean-style diet, is because of the latter's focus on healthy Omega-3 essential fatty acids, sourced in everything from wild fatty fish to cold-pressed, extra-virgin olive oil.

    Omega-3s are vital when it comes to preventing obesity, heart disease, and cancer. When it comes to dairy, children in particular (who often consume the largest amount of dairy in the family owing to their need to foster healthy bone growth), should consume organic milk, cheese, and other dairy products as much as possible. Babies who are not breastfed should be raised on quality organic formula rather than conventionally sourced products.

    Higher antioxidant levels

    The second important finding made by researchers was that organic produce has a significantly higher level of antioxidants and lower levels of heavy metal, cadmium, than conventionally grown produce.

    Antioxidants are powerful allies that battle the free radicals in our bodies, which cause a plethora of diseases. They also help in keeping the skin looking young and refreshed since free radicals are the cause of loss of skin firmness and the formation of wrinkles.

    The choice to go organic is one that will benefit everyone in the family from babies to older adults. All of us need antioxidants and Omega-3 essential fatty acids to thrive, keep disease at bay, and keep our skin in great condition, so the effort and expense are cost-effective when our health is viewed from a long-term perspective.
