My child is very polite and silent at school, but not at home. What is your advice?

    Dear Parent,

Think about how you behave differently in each of the different places -  At home? In your friend’s house? In the house of a distant relative? At work?

If your child is full of life and energy at home and expresses herself freely– be happy. It means she feels safe and secure with you. She is comfortable expressing her feelings to you. She knows you love her no matter what. On the other hand, she may want to follow the rules and be compliant at school. She may still be figuring out who her friends are, and who she can trust.  If you feel she is sometimes misbehaving at home, then, when she is in a calm mood, talk to her about appropriate behavior. Be clear with her on how you expect her to behave. Be a role model and your child will follow you.
