The Art Of Forgiveness

ParentCircle, ParentcircleParentCircle

Remember the famous saying, ‘To err is human, to forgive divine’? It is natural for humans to make mistakes, but to have the heart to forgive someone takes a lot of strength. Like Mahatma Gandhi said, “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

While it is easier said than done, to forgive and forget is an important life skill that your child must possess. In a professional environment, he will come across many people who might say something hurtful, but he must learn to forget about it, forgive them and move on. Otherwise, achieving success can be difficult.

So how can we, as parents, help our children adopt the art of forgiveness? According to the article 'How to Teach Your Children to Forgive' published in everydayfamily.com, 'With young children, most arguments are not intentional. Yes, bullying exists. But when two kids get together to play and a squabble erupts over a toy or game, it usually isn’t personal. Encourage your child to consider what his friend might have been thinking or feeling. Was he jealous of a toy? Did he get really excited and have trouble waiting his turn? Reframing the incident teaches your child to think about others.'

Encourage your child to put himself in someone else’s shoes and look at things from a different perspective. To know more about the art of forgiveness and teach your child the same, go through the ClipBook below, which is a curation of some amazing links from around the web!
