Teens And Social Media

ParentCircle, ParentcircleParentCircle

With technology developing at a rapid pace, more and more youngsters are getting connected to the digital world, thanks to the Internet. As a result, many social networking platforms have also come up in the past few years – from Orkut to Facebook to Google plus.

These social networking platforms have caught the fancy of teens around the world. They use it to find friends, build networks, share ideas and so much more. However, being active on social media has its own risks, which is reflected in the increasing rate of cybercrimes. Therefore, as parents, it is our responsibility to ensure that our teens stay safe online.

The key is to doing this is to teach, and trust, your teen to make the best use of social media, but also to be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour.

According to an article published in safe search kids, “Keep computers in a ’public’ location, rather than in their bedroom. At your discretion, it may be a good idea to routinely check computer and phone history and require that you know the passwords to all of your teen’s accounts… but keep in mind that infringing on their right to privacy may only push them further away.”

Give your teen the freedom to explore the world of social media, but with boundaries. To know more about how to do that, flip through the pages of our ClipBook.
