Single Parenting

ParentCircle

“Being a single parent is twice the work, twice the stress and twice the tears. But it is also twice the hugs, twice the love and twice the pride.” - Unknown.

Bringing up a child can be a daunting task on its own. And having to do that all alone could be even more challenging. Single parenting entails added responsibilities than normal – from diaper duties to college funds, everything could be an added difficulty. An article in Livestrong.com states the various hurdles single parents face and the effects it has on the children. “Besides financial constraints, other emotional effects of growing up in a single-parent household may include feelings of abandonment, sadness, loneliness and difficulty socialising and connecting with others.”

However, there are many positive aspects to single parenting, that will take an effect on your child’s behaviours as well. The same article reads, “Children in single-parent families may exhibit strong responsibility skills, as they are often called upon to help out more with family chores and tasks. Children in single-parent families often form close bonds with their parent, as they are closely dependent on each other throughout the child’s life.”

Despite having to face newer challenges every day, you, as a single parent, need to remember that it is probably equally difficult for your child. An article in Huffington Post states, “Don’t expect your kids to start acting like adults just because you’re on your own. Do not discuss problems related to your ex or finances with them — and never expect them to take sides.”

Being a single parent can give you multiple hardships. So read through this ClipBook to find some amazing things about parenting on your own and how to overcome these hardships.
