We crave for sweet, salty or fatty foods because when we put this kind of food in our mouths, the taste buds send a signal to our brain, which in turn stimulates the opioids or endorphins and we end up perceiving a highly satisfying experience. This makes us crave for it more and more. Giving into these temptations leads to getting addicted to it.

If the circumstances around eating a rewarding food were pleasant, it becomes an emotional experience which gets stored in our memory. When we recall that food, it will stimulate desire.
