One often falls short of tributes when the person at whom the praise is directed is one of the legends of Indian cricket. Known simply as “The Wall”, but one that stood like the rock of Gibraltar against the very best of the bowling world that included the likes of Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath and Allan Donald.
In case you have not still figured it out, we are talking about the person who once formed the most famed trio in Indian batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman – Rahul Dravid.
But, do you know what goes into raising a legend like Dravid? We try to find out through the eyes of the parents of the Wall.
Rahul’s father, Mr Sharad Dravid, is one proud father and who has been witness to many great moments in cricket scripted by his famous son. Ask him what is his most memorable and favourite moment and he instantly replies that it was seeing Rahul make his debut at cricket’s hallowed ground Lord’s in 1996.
Dravid’s mother Pushpa Dravid remembers the speech given at the Sir Donald Bradman Oration as the most memorable moment for her and one that gave her the greatest pride.
Apart from the Padma Shri, the Arjuna Award, and the Don Bradman award, Dravid was also bestowed upon, in 2015, the title of Wisden India Highest Impact Test Batsman.
