Parental Love Letters

ParentCircle, ParentcircleParentCircle

Technology has become an inseparable part of our lives. Advances in technology have provided us with different modes of instant communication like e-mail, short message service and apps like WhatsApp.

In today’s times of instant communication, when we usually keep our messages short – restricted to 140 characters on Twitter, a simple handwritten letter acquires great significance; letters written by parents to their children assume even greater significance. Although the practice of writing letters by hand is fading, it remains an important form of communication.

Letters written by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to his then 10-year-old daughter Indira Gandhi have withstood the test of time. A collection of these letters is available in the form of a book titled ’Letters from a Father to his Daughter.’ In these letters, Pt. Nehru tries to explain to how the world came to be as it is and how power is not a right but a privilege.

The Huffington Post in one of its article titled ’A Father’s Letter To His Son’ gives a poignant description of the love a father has for his daughter.

Many other famous parents have also written moving letters to their children, such as the outgoing US President Barack Obama’s letter to his daughters Malia and Sasha, JRR Tolkien’s letter to his children and Legacy: Letters from eminent parents to their daughters by Sudha Menon.

If you want to know more about other parental love letters that have left a lasting impression, skim through the pages of this ClipBook.
