Summer is the time when exams get over and kids get to enjoy vacations. It is the time when they engage in a lot of strenuous physical activity, which leaves them tired and hungry. Even pre-schoolers or toddlers who are busy running around and exploring the world tend to sweat and feel tired. As playing under the sun can drain your child’s energy and make him feel tired, it is essential to plan a different kind of diet for him during summer.
Your child’s summer diet should include meals that are easy to digest and fresh, as cooked food tends to get spoilt easily during summer. A lot of hydrating or cooling foods like watermelon, tender coconut water, lemonade, cucumber, and butter milk should be added to her diet to make sure the water content of the body is not depleted. The right kind of food will allow her body to regain the lost strength and also maintain an optimal temperature.
According to an article in the Times of India, an international study conducted last year that tracked 5,380 children through kindergarten and first grade found that the body mass index (BMI) accelerated at a faster rate during the summer break than the school year. So, inculcating healthy eating habits in your child becomes even more important during the summer time.
