Junk Foods And Health Risks In Children

ParentCircle

It is a universally known fact that junk food is high in taste but low in nutrition and harms one’s health, resulting in obesity and a host of other diseases such as diabetes and even heart disease. This holds true for all and especially children who love junk food.

Fast foods (which are mostly junk) are often overladen with calories and have zero nutrition. A diet high in fast food increases the risk of obesity and actually hampers concentration in children.

According to Mayo Clinic, children who ate a diet filled with junk or processed foods, potato chips, sports drinks and calorie-laden food like pizza were likely to suffer from depression. To avoid this, children should consume more of healthy food like oats, nuts, juices and brown bread.

So what are the ideal foods for growing children? Organic food, for instance, will result in fit and healthy children. Healthy foods like nuts, fruit juices, brown bread and similar food will go a long way in helping children stay fit.

Eric Schlosser, author of the book Fast Food Nation has correctly stated, “fast food chains spend a large amount of marketing to get the attention of children. People form their eating habits as children so they try to nurture clients as youngsters.”
