Importance Of Creative Arts

The field of creative arts is yet to be fully explored. Even today, many Indian parents want their children to become engineers or doctors rather than take up arts as a career. However, creative arts play an important role in the development of children. It serves as a means of expression and relaxation.

According to an article 'Why Art and Creativity Are Important', by Paula Bernstein, published in a parenting website, quotes Mary Ann F Kohl, the author of 'Primary Art: It's the Process, Not the Product' as saying, “Creating art may boost young children's ability to analyse and problem-solve in myriad ways."

Children improve their fine motor skills by learning to manipulate a paintbrush. By counting pieces and colours, they learn the basics of math. When children experiment with materials, they develop an interest in science. Most important perhaps is that children feel good while they are creating and art helps to boost their creativity and self-confidence. Children who are given the opportunity to experiment and make mistakes develop new ways of thinking.

With so many benefits of creative arts for children, don’t you think you too should encourage your child to pick up a brush and paint his own future? Perhaps he’ll become the next Vincent Van Gogh, or whoever he wishes to be! To conclude in the words of the great artist himself, “If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
