Ice Bucket To Rice Bucket!

How is dumping a bucket of icy water down your head going to help people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)?

Many of us have thought of this when the “Ice Bucket Challenge” went viral on the internet.

Many of us have taken up the challenge without even knowing the purpose of the challenge.

Many of us donated for the patients who suffer from ALS and some others stayed ignorant about the motive behind the challenge. Albeit, the sensation didn’t fail to get noticed and reap a lot of donations. Hopefully, the donations have made it to the medical doctors who are trying to find a cure for ALS and the patients suffering from the same.

But, is it relevant to Indians? This is another question which might have popped up in many of our heads. Manjulatha Kalanidhi, who hails from Hyderabad questioned the purpose of ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ just like many of us, but she answered herself through her actions when she started the ‘Rice Bucket Challenge’ for the poverty stricken and the needy of the country. She won the Karmaveer Chakra Award and the Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship by iCONGO for her innovative modification of the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge.’

“It’s local, desi and a practical solution to issues in the vicinity. Instead of wasting water on ice bucket challenge, save water and feed the hungry,” posted Manju Latha on her Facebook page as and when she initiated this new revolutionary and apt challenge for the nation.
