The period between pregnancy and giving birth takes a lot off any mother. It can be physically and mentally exhausting for the new mom. After giving birth, the last thing new moms have time for is making meals that are not just filling but nutritious and healthy too.
However, nutrition is especially important for new breastfeeding moms whose bodies will deplete their own stores of nutrients if not taking them in through regular diet.
According an article titled Best foods for new moms: Energy boosters by Stephanie Miles published in babycenter.com in 2016, new moms should start with a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Eggs and yogurt that contain proteins and wholegrain bread and cereals that are rich in complex carbohydrates should be included in the daily diet of new moms.
WebMD, in one of its articles, has listed certain healthy foods that new moms should take:
• Salmon is loaded with a type of fat called DHA, which is crucial to the development of a baby’s nervous system.
• Low-fat dairy products such as yogurt, milk, cheese, paneer should be consumed regularly after giving birth.
• Iron-rich beans, particularly dark-coloured ones like the black beans and kidney beans are great breastfeeding food.
• Oranges are a great food to boost energy and contain vitamin C.
• Brown rice that provides the calories needed to make the best-quality milk.
Apart from these, leafy vegetables and whole grains should also be included in the diet of new moms.
