Disposable Vs. Cloth Diapers

It’s a wonderful feeling to become a parent. The joy of holding your baby in your arms for the first time cannot be expressed in words. But, being a parent is not easy. There are many things to keep in mind once your child is born. Take diapers for example. Our age-old Indian traditions would have our grandmothers and mothers telling us to use washable cloth diapers rather than disposable ones. However, many modern day parents tend to prefer disposable diapers because they feel such diapers are convenient and keep their babies dry and clean.

So, what should we, as parents, choose for our children’s delicate skin? Disposable or cloth diapers? According to an article titled, What's in disposable diapers – and are they safe for your baby? published in BabyCenter, most paediatricians and experts say that disposable diapers do what is required out of them – protect a baby’s skin without any mess and hassle. In the same article, Ilona Frieden, director of paediatric dermatology at UC San Francisco's Children's Hospital, also mentions that she sees lesser cases of diaper rashes in children these days because most modern disposable diapers absorb a lot of moisture. She also suggests that if rashes are found to be common in your child, it is better to shift to cloth diapers, which absorb less, but are also free from chemicals and dyes.
