Child And Adolescent Mental Health


Mental health directly affects a person's physical and emotional health. Mental health issues can have severe repercussions on how a child behaves with others and reacts to situations. According to the American Psychological Association (APA, "Both physical and mental health affects how we think, feel and act on the inside and outside." Children can have mental health troubles due to hereditary factors as well as problems at home. Emotional abuse, bullying, and unhealthy or violent home environment can all affect a child's mental state. Dysfunctional family life can cause depression or mental stress in Children and adolescents.

There is still some stigma attached to mental health problems. But things are changing in this regard. Many famous people like J.K. Rowling have openly talked about their struggle with depression. Openness about mental health issues and treatments is absolutely essential. Timely diagnosis of a mental disorder can ensure that a child grows up to be a healthy adult and is also able to have a happy childhood.

Children who show signs of aggression, anti-social behaviour or sudden change of habits such as loss of appetite are at risk of suffering from psychological disorders. A nurturing home environment and awareness about the mental condition and changing behaviour are necessary to raise healthy children. An article titled Mental health risks and protective factors
