A Career In Counselling

Unknown, ParentcircleParentCircle

A counsellor is an individual who helps people, families or groups deal with difficult immediate or ongoing situations. It empowers these groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.

It’s important to know that counselling is quite distinct from professional medical psychology; however, the two roles are often confused. An article in myjobsearch.com explains, “A counsellor does not necessarily need any medical training and subsequently may not be qualified to deal with any condition with a medical base or that could severely impact an individual’s personality.” Whereas, a psychologist might require professional and medical training.

But do you want to know why your child should take this up as a career and what it will entail? An article in cacrep.org answers that: “Counselling can offer the right individual a rewarding career path in a health profession that’s growing. It requires a strong desire to interact with people, exceptional communication skills, and an ability to complete a graduate degree. Choosing to become a professional counsellor is a commitment to yourself, to others, and to society as a whole.”

As the health profession is growing, as this article suggests, it is important to note that the scope for counselling is also widening. Educational and school counselling has become an extremely popular field these days, with with a child’s school life becoming more and more overwhelming.

This ClipBook gives you an overview of educational counselling, and many such prospects of this profession. Read the articles to know more.
