The Parenting Place, The Parenting PlaceThe Parenting Place

Do you have a picky eater at home? Are mealtimes a struggle, with you running after your child to have a piece of chapatti or a spoonful of rice?

Picky eating or fussy eating is mostly prevalent among toddlers. It is one of the reasons why you may want to visit a paediatrician, as you fear whether your little ones are getting the right amount of nutrition or not. Author Howard J. Bennett in an article published in Washington Post online writes, “In most cases, this is normal and will lessen as a child reaches middle school.” According to an article on Picky eaters in Parents.com, Andrea Vazzana, PhD, a psychologist at the New York University Child Study Center, who specialises in problematic eating, says, “Most of them outgrow that stage if they're exposed to a variety of choices, but about 25 per cent of kids don't outgrow their reluctance to try new foods.”

It is essential that you adopt a few tips or strategies to correct the habit of selective eating in your child. You need to make sure you make mealtime fun, don’t force feed, and provide easy alternatives to healthy food.
