The exposure to junk or processed food is more compared to what we had as kids. Biscuits and breads were rarely bought at home, today they've become a part of our daily diet and there is so much more that kids learn from TV. This is one of the major reasons, there is a simple solution to this problem but it needs dedication and sincerity from adults before kids can follow the footsteps.
DO not store such foods in too much qty, as a family do not eat too much of eat and discourage rewarding kids with such items when they something nice or good. If your child is 5 and above reason out how unhealthy food can lead to health problems later in life (in kid language of course) help them make healthy choices. Keep variety of fresh fruits and grocery for them to choose from. Children get bored easily so variety is key.
