Technology plays a huge part in our lives and so will it for generations to come. The advent of smartphones, tabs, phablets has shrunk the world but is driving away individual members in the family millions of years apart. The most worrying part is the impact that it has on kids. The amount of time that my little boy who is yet to turn four spends on the tab that I had originally bought for my wife is a huge cause of concern for me. A start that was made to get him something to eat everyday with the tab serving as the distraction has resulted in the distraction becoming a destructive force. My wife and myself have been slowly trying to wean him away from this habit. The trick is to bring out the kid in ourselves so that we can make us the playmate which would make it get on to other areas which will be of fun and of learning as well for him. Be it using the clay to make beautiful pictures, using paint to dip his little hands in and paint images and sometimes on the walls as well :-), using shapes for learning. Taking him out to the children's park to breathe the fresh air and ensuring that he gets his fair bit of physical activity have all been helping to kick away the habit of him using the tab hours on end. In our everyday pressure of work, getting various household chores done, we had missed the area that should have been our number one priority over anything else. Thankfully, the realization on what is important has dawned before it was too late. By the time my little boy turns 4 in a few months time, I am happy that I would not need to keep a 'tab' on his 'tab' watching.
