Dr Nithya Poornima, renowned clinical psychologist from NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and a member of ParentCircle Advisory Board, answers questions on how to make this academic year fruitful for your child.
Q My nine-year-old daughter usually attends keyboard, chess and painting classes after school and enjoys all of them. Now, all these places are offering online classes for the rest of the year. But I am not sure how productive these will be. If she pursues all three, do you think we are overburdening her, especially when she is still coping with online learning at school?Though your daughter is familiar with all the activities you have mentioned, doing them online will be a different experience. It would help to have a conversation with her about what she used to enjoy about each of these after-school classes. This will give you an idea about which of these activities she may look forward to, more than the others, in an online mode. Also, remember, it is perfectly okay to allow her to simply play the keyboard on her own, or paint by herself,.
