Children across the world love superheroes not only because they fight against evil, but also for their funky and cool outfits. In a way, superheroes play a big role in teaching young minds that good always triumphs over evil.

If your child is gearing up for a fancy dress competition, dressing up as a superhero would make him feel special. And, if both of you sit together and get the costume ready, then it would become a moment to cherish forever.

So, get ready for some fun, as we present some famous superhero fancy dress ideas for kids:

Superhero fancy dress costumes for your children


Spiderman fancy dress

Materials required:

  • A plain blue T-shirt and a blue pyjama
  • A sleeveless red hoodie jacket
  • Black felt sheet
  • A pair of long red socks
  • A picture of Spiderman logo
  • Hot glue
  • A pair of scissors

How to make a Spiderman fancy dress:

  • Using a permanent black marker, draw lines resembling spider webs all over the hoodie.
  • Using the black felt sheet, make the Spiderman logo.
  • Carefully glue the logo to the centre of the hoodie.
  • Your child can first wear the T-shirt and then the hoodie over it. He can wear the socks over the pants.

Superman fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Using the felt sheets, make the Superman logo.
  • Carefully glue the logo to the centre of the T-shirt.
  • Cut the red fabric to your child's size, and glue or sew it to the shoulders of the T-shirt to form a cape.
  • Your child can wear the T-shirt with the cape and blue pants. He can wear the underwear and socks over the pants.

Batman fancy dress

Materials required:

  • A plain black T-shirt and a black pyjama
  • Black fabric
  • Black felt sheet
  • An old belt
  • A picture of Batman logo
  • Hot glue
  • A pair of scissors
  • Gold coloured acrylic paint
  • Elastic

How to make a Batman fancy dress:

  • Using the felt sheets, make the Batman logo.
  • Carefully glue the logo to the centre of the T-shirt.
  • Cut the black fabric to your child's size, and glue or sew it to the shoulders of the T-shirt to form the cape.
  • Paint the belt with gold acrylic paint and let it dry.
  • To make the mask, use a template from the Internet. Cut the black felt in the shape of the mask.
  • Make two holes on the sides of the mask and lace the elastic through them.
  • Your child can wear the T-shirt with the cape and black pants. He can wear the belt and the mask to complete the look.

Avengers fancy dress

Let’s now have a look at the costumes of the Avengers characters – Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk.

Captain America fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Long-sleeved blue T-shirt
  • Blue track pants
  • Cardboard
  • Red, blue and white chart paper
  • Blue monkey cap
  • Glue
  • A pair of scissors

How to make a Captain America fancy dress:

  • Cut out the letter ‘A’ and two star shapes from the white chart paper.
  • Paste ‘A’ on the front side of the monkey cap.
  • Paste one white star on the front side of the T-shirt.
  • Paste the blue chart paper on the cardboard using the glue.
  • Once the glue is dry, cut a big circle from the cardboard.
  • Paste the other white star at the centre of the circle.
  • To make a handle, cut a small strip from the white chart paper and paste it on the rear side of the cardboard. The Captain America’s shield is now ready.
  • Make long wrist bands using the red chart paper.
  • Your child can first wear the T-shirt, the track pants and the wrist bands. He can then wear the monkey cap with the letter ‘A’.
  • Once he holds the shield, your child gets transformed into Captain America.

Iron Man fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Long-sleeved, golden yellow T-shirt and track pants
  • Red sleeveless vest
  • Cardboard
  • White chart paper
  • Glue

How to make an Iron man fancy dress:

  • Get the mask design of Iron Man from the Internet and print it out.
  • Paste it on the cardboard and cut out the shape. Make two holes in the cheek area. Insert a string into these holes and tie them so that your child can easily wear the mask.
  • To put on the dress, your child can first wear the T-shirt and the track pants. He can then wear the red vest over the T-shirt.
  • Now, make him wear the mask, and your Iron Man is ready for action.

Hulk fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Long-sleeved, tight-fitting green T-shirt

  • First, ask your child to wear the T-shirt and track pants. Let him then wear the shorts over the track pants.
  • Apply the green face paint on your child’s face and see how he turns into a Hulk instantly!

Power Rangers fancy dress

Materials required:

  • A full-sleeved T-shirt and track pants in the colour of the Power Ranger character your child chooses (such as pink, red, yellow or blue)
  • White chart paper
  • Full-mask helmet in a colour that matches the dress
  • Glue
  • A pair of scissors

How to make a Power Rangers fancy dress:

  • Take the chart paper and cut a diamond shape out of it. Paste it on the front portion of the T-shirt using the glue.
  • Cut out a belt-like strip from the chart paper.
  • To put on the costume, let your child first wear the T-shirt and the track pants. Fix the belt around his waist and glue (or staple) its open ends.
  • Once he wears the helmet, he would become a Power Ranger.

Deadpool fancy dress

Materials required:

  • A full-sleeved T-shirt and red track pants
  • Black vinyl sticker
  • Red monkey cap
  • A pair of scissors

How to make a Deadpool fancy dress:

  • By looking at the image of Deadpool, cut out the black vinyl sticker in the required shape.
  • Stick these shapes appropriately on the T-shirt, track pants and monkey cap.
  • To wear the costume, your child should first put on the T-shirt and the track pants. He can then wear the mask and pose like Deadpool.

He-Man fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Cardboard sheet
  • White chart paper
  • Poster colours: red, silver
  • A pair of red shorts
  • Golden-haired wig
  • Glue
  • A pair of scissors

How to make a He-Man fancy dress:

  • Take the chart paper and cut two long strips of about 2 inches width. Join the ends of each strip using the glue. Now, paste them together to make the letter ‘X’.
  • Cut out a square shape from the white chart paper. Draw the He-Man cross symbol (displayed on his chest) using the red poster colour. Paste this piece at the centre of any one side of the crossed strips. The He-Man’s chest armour is now ready.
  • Draw the outline of the He-Man’s sword on the cardboard and cut it out. (Refer to the Internet for the shape of the sword.)
  • Apply silver colour on the sword.
  • To put on the dress, your child should first wear the pair of red shorts. He can then wear the chest armour, with the red cross symbol in the front. Then, make him wear the golden-haired wig.
  • Let him raise the sword up and roar like He-Man.

Terminator fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Black T-shirt
  • Black trousers/jeans
  • Black leather jacket
  • Black sunglasses/goggles
  • Toy gun (optional)

How to make a Terminator fancy dress:

  • Dressing up like Terminator is pretty simple. All your child needs to do is wear the clothes and the sunglasses. If he sports a stone-faced look with these costumes on, you’ll see him transform into a Terminator.

The Mask fancy dress

Materials required:

  • Green face paint (child-safe)
  • Blazer, trousers and hat in bright yellow
  • White shirt
  • Black and white printed tie
  • Black marker pen

How to make The Mask fancy dress:

  • Apply the green face paint on your child’s face. (Check for signs of allergy before applying it on the entire face.)
  • Make him wear the white shirt and the tie. If you don’t have a black and white printed tie, take a white one and draw some random design on it using the black marker pen.
  • Let your child then wear the yellow trousers and the blazer. Top it with the yellow hat, and there’s your lovely little ‘Mask’.
