Let’s get started!
1. The Family Memory Tree
We bring to you a family tree, with a cheerful little twist. This special tree is unique and different from the usual and popular ‘genealogy’ ones!
This innovative family tree DIY acts as a keepsake of your precious and cherished memories of 2018. Craft a memory tree and add onto it photographs of special family moments such as your child’s first steps, a fun-filled outing to the beach or your child with her first baby tooth out.
This is a great way to treasure memories, every year!
- Coloured sheets of paper – one in brown and three in different shades of green
- Double-sided tape
- Family photographs
Step 1: Draw circles of different sizes on the green-coloured sheets of paper.
Step 2: Cut out enough circles in different shades to make the leaves and branches of the tree.
Step 3: Draw a bark of the required size, on a brown-coloured sheet of paper.
Step 4: Cut out the bark.
Step 5: Find a perfect wall space and with the help of double-sided tape, stick the bark.
Step 6: Now stick the green circles randomly above the bark, so that they look like the branches and leaves of the tree.
Step 7: Now that your tree is done, stick your happy family pictures of 2018 on each of the circles and adore them!
2. The Family Clicks Calendar
Do you have too many family pictures idly resting on your phone? Maybe it is time to bring them to life! Turn your family photographs into amazing calendar pictures. They will look great on your wall! Let’s show you how…
- 12 A4 size sheets of coloured paper
- A pair of scissors
- 12 family pictures
- A roll of twine
- Punching machine
Step 1: Fold an A4 sheet of coloured paper into half.
Step 2: Cut out all 12 of your family pictures into the same size, shape and dimension; but, ensure they fit cosily on the top half of the A4.
Step 3: Pick one of the 12 photos and stick it on the top half of the folded A4 sheet of paper.
Step 3: Across the bottom half of the A4, with a thick marker, write the name of the month.
Step 4: Using a thin marker, write down the days and dates of the month as on a regular calendar.
Step 5: Repeat the same process for all the 12 months. Decorate it as you please.
Step 6: Arrange the sheets in the chronological order and with the help of a punching machine, punch two holes on the top left and top right.
Step 7: Pass a twine through the punched-out holes and tie the sheets together. Your Family Clicks Calendar is now ready! Hang it on the wall and deck it up.
3. To-do planner:
This New Year, it’s time for your family to get more organised with this smart, fun and interesting DIY planner.
It is extremely easy to make and adds a nice peppy touch to your walls. Even your kids would be excited to make it and use it to stay organised.
- Unused or old photo frames – one for each family member
- Sheets of paper with colourful patterns (like gift-wrapping paper)
Step 1: Write your name on a strip of colourful paper.
Step 2: Remove the photographs from the photo frame. Cut out rectangular pieces of colourful paper in the same dimensions as the photographs.
Step 3: Insert this newly-cut piece of paper into the photo frame in place of the photograph.
Step 4: Use markers and write on the glass surface with your list of things to do for the week ahead.
Step 5: You can strike out or erase each activity, as and when you complete them. So, you can reuse the frames as many times as you like. Isn’t that great?
Aren’t these DIYs just super easy and fun to make? They also make for good home décor. What are you waiting for? Get started with your children, spend quality time together as a family and make these amazing DIYs to spruce up your home and kickstart 2019.
Keep your creative juices flowing all year through… and stay organised!
