My parents were very encouraging and enthusiastic about our interests. They always supported us in the pursuit of our aspirations. Apart from academics, we went to music, dance and theatre classes. They placed unstinting faith in us. Yes, they were indulgent, but at the same time, they were firm when required. It was extremely efficient parenting; it worked wonderfully.
When I moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting, I realised that all the stern rules and values my parents had ingrained in me were imperative to success. It was this discipline they instilled in me that made me chase and achieve the kind of life I wanted. All their teachings have now become my lifestyle traits.
I have a daughter, Mihika, and four nieces. Our girls are encouraged to work hard and be independent. The only thing I tell my daughter is that she should be happy with the choices she makes and should always earn her own living and achieve success through her own efforts.
