Parents often feel helpless when children suffer from recurrent episodes of cold, fever, respiratory complaints, earache or other illnesses. Children catch infections from others at school or develop various kinds of allergies, be it from pets, certain foods, dust or pollen.
Homeopathic medications for children
Homeopathy is considered safe and effective for children. The sweet pills are easy to administer and effortlessly revive immunity. Your child gets strong enough to withstand the demands of everyday life. Giving your child homeopathic remedies greatly reduces or stops the dependence on antibiotics and/or steroids given for repeated infections, asthma or nephrotic syndrome.
Homeopathy medicines vary from child to child. They are prescribed based on signs and symptoms the child exhibits.
Here are some common homeopathy medicines for children which are prescribed on the basis of their symptoms:
1. Calcarea carbonica
These children are typically fat, fair and lethargic. They appear healthy but do not possess much energy either at the mental or physical level. They are slow at school, slow to eat, slow at games and have weak muscles. They give up easily. They often have difficulty in one or another subject at school. They do not answer questions in class if they are not sure of the answer. They are shy and fear being laughed at. They also fear darkness and being alone. They are fond of eggs, sweets and ice creams. They sweat easily on exertion. They have a tendency to get recurrent colds, tonsillitis and constipation.
2. Calcarea phosphorica
These children are a bit shy and reserved to begin with. After 2-3 interactions, they are comfortable and friendly. They are comparatively brighter and more agile with activities. They suffer from enlarged adenoids, tonsils and cervical glands. They tend to have a headache if overworked and dislike interference. They suffer from growing pains too.
Very bright and excitable children. Delicate, thin, tall and fair usually. Very emotional and sensitive by nature. They love to be among friends and people. Often, they are the centre of attraction. They are afraid of the dark, being alone and thunderstorms. They easily catch a cold, cough or bronchitis. They desire more of salty, spicy food and tend to dislike sweets.
Children are thin, pale, feel cold easily. They are touchy, difficult and resent interference. Fairly bright and intelligent but easily tire out physically. They have a dislike for milk or have an intolerance to milk. They suffer from constipation, recurring tonsillitis or throats infections, tendency to boils, brittle hair and nails.
5. Bartya carbonica
It is an excellent remedy for the mentally less fortunate children, be it a case of delayed development or mental retardation. They are dwarfish, very shy, nervous of strangers, have a fear of being left alone or going outdoors alone, will not go down to play. They dislike bathing. They often get night terrors. All their milestones are delayed. They are late in walking, talking and have delayed dentition. You cannot hold their attention for long. They are inattentive, lack concentration and forget easily. They suffer from tonsillitis, have saliva dribbling.
6. Natrum muriaticum
Children are underweight and short. They dislike being interfered with. They do not like to be consoled and are better when left alone. These children are late to speak. As they grow older, they are likely to suffer from headaches. They crave salt and salty food so much that they may even steal salt. They develop eruptions along margins of hair.
7. Antimonium crudum
These children are overweight and have a tendency to get skin and gastric complaints. They are irritable by nature and hate being touched. But they are emotional and sensitive and get upset easily. Sour foods don't suit them. Their tongue always has a white coating.
They are dainty looking with fine skin and hair. They are shy, sensitive, always affectionate and easy to handle. They tend to weep easily. They crave attention. Their digestion is easily affected by heavy fatty food, pastries, fried or rich food. They tend to catch a cold, earache and eye infections.
They have dry coarse skin. Most complaints are related to their skin and they have a tendency to get diarrhoea; at times having to rush to the washroom after every meal. They are lazy or rather lack stamina and cannot stand for long. They are intelligent and inquisitive by nature. Some of them have a great command over languages. They dislike interference and are of the 'I know it all' types.
They have a large appetite and like spicy, highly seasoned food and marked craving for sweets. They hate the heat and they sweat profusely.
They are very obstinate and hate to be touched. Gradually they quieten and like being carried. Older children do not like any jokes played on them. They have a tendency towards vomiting and are immediately hungry thereafter. Abdominal colic is relieved by pressure. Their nose is itchy and they tend to constantly rub against the pillow.
These children are oversensitive to noise, pain and people. They go into a frenzy or rage from pains. They throw tantrums for no reason and are very difficult to handle. They may strike at you. Children are restless but like to be carried all the time. They are never satisfied with anything. Whatever toy you give them to play they give up in no time. It is a very good remedy for all dentition-related complaints, especially loose motions.
Homeopathy vs antibiotics
Diseases are not caused only by bacteria but other factors that compromise immunity. Antibiotics may kill bacteria but do not alter the other factors responsible for the infections. With antibiotics, infections are bound to recur and the appetite is greatly reduced affecting nutritional status and immunity. Also, antibiotics cannot treat viral infections. Homeopathy has the added advantage that it is safe even in newborn babies.
Role of homeopathy in childhood allergies and infections
Allergies are a modern epidemic. Many children are predisposed to asthma, eczema and hay fever. The contributing factors include the rise in pollution and the use of chemicals in food, medicines and household products.
Homeopathy works not only at the physical level but also emotional and intellectual. Low attention span, tantrums, poor concentration or hypersensitive nature in children can be taken care of with homeopathy.
Some common childhood disorders that can be taken care of with homeopathy are: infant colic, teething problems, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, convulsions, asthma, tonsillitis, respiratory infections, recurrent boils, worms, headache, migraine, growth retardation, obesity, convulsions, eczema, psoriasis, warts, vitiligo, jaundice, nephrotic syndrome, thyroid disorder, hair loss, growing pains and childhood arthritis.
So the next time your child falls sick, consult your nearest homeopathic practitioner to find out which homeopathic medicine to give to your child.
