It is a lovely Saturday morning and Lakshmi’s house has come alive with the sound of her friends rehearsing for the play they are scheduled to perform at school the following week. Ten-year-old Lakshmi, who is directing the play, has organised the session to make sure everyone gets their lines right. Her mother sets a tray of juice and biscuits on the table, and then joins the other mothers to watch the kids.
