Behind every child who believes in himself, is a parent who believed first. If you believe you can do it, you are halfway there. My parents always believed that learning is a lifelong journey that ends with your last breath. Looking at them, I developed enormous confidence and a never-say-die attitude that made me strong in every step of my life. My parents always encouraged me to take education seriously and to be honest, no matter how hard it may seem. They emphasised that, in the long run, honesty always outweighed any short-term benefit. Overall, they helped me to be a good human being with a fairly successful career.
As a child I was a rebel; I used to question everything anyone said. I still question a lot more than I answer, as I believe questioning shows new ways of doing things.
I encourage my children to be independent thinkers. My message is - Believe in yourself, be positive and have a down-to-earth attitude. Remember, honesty and integrity will take you a long way. Lead by example and, of course, there is no substitute to hard work.
