And Rakhi is a sacred thread that celebrates the love between a caring sister and a protecting brother. However, taking the effort to make your own Rakhi does show how special your brother is, doesn’t it?

1. Bracelet Rakhi

Materials required:

  • Golden chain
  • 1 picture
  • Few fabric pearl stones
  • Few fabric golden beads
  • A piece of cardboard
  • Adhesive
  • Super-glue
  • Scissors

Method:

  • Step 1: Cut the picture and the cardboard in a small circle and stick them together.
  • Step 2: Stick the fabric stones around the picture.
  • Step 3: Measure the golden chain with your wrist and cut it twice the measured length.
  • Step 4: Insert four golden beads into the chain.
  • Step 5: Stick the ends of the chain behind the picture with super-glue.
  • Step 6: Cut out a circle of the same size.
  • Step 7: Glue it behind to cover.

2. Traditional Rakhi

Materials required:

  • 2 bright coloured silk threads
  • Few golden fabric beads
  • Fancy fabric accessories with stones and beads
  • Cardboard

Method:

  • Step 1: Place a bright big stone on the cardboard.
  • Step 2: Stick the fabric stones and beads around the stone.
  • Step 3: Repeat it until you attain the required size.
  • Step 4: Finish the circle with pearls, and cut the circle after dried.
  • Step 5: Tie two colours of silk threads together and insert two golden beads.
  • Step 6: Stick the cardboard piece in the centre and insert two more beads.
  • Step 7: Tie the other end so that the beads don't fall out.

3. Braided Rakhi

Materials required:

  • Golden thread
  • Cardboard
  • 2 bright coloured threads

Method:

  • Step 1: Cut out a small ring from your cardboard
  • Step 2: Cover the ring entirely with the golden thread
  • Step 3: Insert two long threads of different colours.
  • Step 4: Braid the threads and knot them at the end.
  • Step 5: Repeat the same on the other side.

4. Coin Pendant Rakhi

Materials required:

  • One small coin pendant from your old neckpiece
  • Small golden metal ring
  • Bright colour threads

Method:

  • Step 1: Cut out 50 cm of three different coloured threads.
  • Step 2: Braid the three and knot them on either side
  • Step 3: Insert the pendant into a small gold metal ring.
  • Step 4: Attach the ring to the centre of the braided thread and tighten the ring.

5. Chain Rakhi

Materials required:

  • Golden chain
  • A coin
  • A small ring to attach

Method:

  • Step 1: Measure the golden chain a little more than the size of your wrist and cut.
  • Step 2: Insert the coin in a small ring and slip it through the chain.
  • Step 3: Glue the ends of the chain.
