It is that time of the year when the cold winds outside make us crave for some warm and luscious baked treats. And as children spend their winter holidays at home waiting for the arrival of the new year, it is the best time to involve them in the kitchen, while rewarding them with delectable goodies for all their efforts.

Preparing muffins is a fun activity that you can indulge in with your child this holiday season and it need not be a complicated affair. In fact, we give you an awesome idea, which will help you and your child explore variety while baking, using an easy method. With this technique you can bake five different muffins with the same master muffin mix. Read on to know how.

For the Master Muffin Mix --

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 100 g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • Few drops of vanilla essence
  • 2 tbsps of milk

Method:

  1. Take butter and sugar in a wide bowl and whisk them till well combined. You can use an electric mixer.
  2. Add the eggs to this mixture and whisk till light and fluffy. Add milk and mix well.
  3. Stir in a few drops of vanilla essence.
  4. In another bowl, combine all the dry ingredients (plain flour, oats and baking powder).
  5. Now add the dry ingredients to the egg and butter mixture and mix well till the batter is light but not runny. You basic muffin mix is ready.

Here are the different recipes --

1. Cranberry and Hazelnut Muffin

Ingredients:

  • Master Muffin Mix
  • 50 g dried cranberries
  • 50 g chopped hazelnuts

Method:

  1. Prepare a muffin tin by putting festive liners or rubbing in a little butter.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. To the already prepared muffin mix, add the cranberries and the hazelnuts at the end, and fold gently.
  4. Using two spoons, put enough batter inside the muffin holes.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 180 degrees C.
  6. The fruity muffins are ready to eat.

2. Apple and Ginger Muffin

Ingredients:

  • Master Muffin Mix
  • 1 apple chopped to bite-size pieces
  • 1 inch piece ginger (peeled and grated)

Method:

  1. Prepare a muffin tin by putting festive liners or rubbing in a little butter.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. Add the grated ginger to the muffin batter and mix well.
  4. Carefully fold in the chopped apples into the mix
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 180 degrees C.
  6. Take the warm muffins out of the oven and feast.

3. Strawberry and White Chocolate Chip Muffin

Ingredients:

  • Master Muffin Mix
  • 100 g chopped strawberries
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Method:

  1. Prepare a muffin tin by putting festive liners or rubbing in a little butter.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. Put in the strawberries and mix well. Then, lightly fold chocolate chips.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes at 180 degrees C.
  5. Let cool. The delectable muffins are ready

4. Banana and Walnut Muffin

Ingredients:

  • Master Muffin Mix
  • 3 bananas
  • 100 g chopped walnuts

Method:

  1. Prepare a muffin tin by putting festive liners or rubbing in a little butter.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. Here, there is a slight variation in the steps. Add the banana at the second step of the master muffin mix before you add the dry ingredients to the wet ones.
  4. Now, mix in the dry ingredients and then fold the walnuts into the mixture.
  5. Fill the prepared liners with enough muffin mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes.

5. Rich Chocolate and Orange Cake

Ingredients:

  • Master Muffin Mix
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate melted
  • Zest of one orange
  • 50 g glazed orange peel (chopped)

Method:

  1. Prepare a muffin tin by putting festive liners or rubbing in a little butter.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. Carefully add the melted chocolate to the batter and mix well.
  4. Add the zest of an orange and fold in the bits of glazed orange peel. Combine properly.
  5. Fill the prepared liners with enough muffin mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes.
